Ons is nou reg vir die wind!

Friday, October 29th, 2010

DELHEIM MTB & HIKING DAY – 21 November 2010

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Delheim opens its wine farm to hikers and mountain bikers for only one day a year – for an event in aid of the Anna Foundation which provides “Education, Sports and Life Development for underprivileged children in South Africa.”

The mountain biking event features a 14km lap with awesome single track sections, and serious bikers can opt to do two laps (28km).  There is also a 7km option for those a little less fit. The routes include some good climbing against the slopes of Simonsberg, and great single track sections make it really worth it!

Trail runners can attempt either the 7km or the 14km route on the Simonsberg with a R30 permit obtainable at the kiosk at Delheim on the day.

The event starts at 08h30 on 21 November 2010 at the Delheim Wine Estate, on the Knorhoek Road, off the R44 near Stellenbosch.

The entry fee depends on distance and time of entry; but ranges from R35 to R100.  AMA members receive a discount.  There are great prizes to be won at the prize giving as well as a lucky draw, all sponsored by Delheim.

Book for lunch at the Delheim restaurant and enjoy the day in the winelands…

Looking forward to seeing you here!

Hippopotamoos 1 June 1996 – 25 September 2010

by Nora Sperling Thiel

Hippo joined Erhardt and me as a fluffy, short-legged Jack Russell – our first in the family.

Everyone asked what he was crossed with – well, he was just Hippo. Not crossed with anything!!! We even found a “breed” close to what he looked like, so he was officially a Silky Jack Russell.

Hippo was my shadow – walked from Greyton to Mc Gregor, Wolfberg, Betties Bay, Hangklip, Table Mountain, Simonsberg, Klapmutskop, train rides and just everywhere.

Hippo also became the Delheim restaurant mascot. He did not miss lunch where he was very much able to figure out who had ordered lamb shanks.

He was just Hippopotamoos, Hipopo, Mr Piggly, Mr Hippo Potamoos, and Pottamoos.

We all miss you – the lunch-time begging, the shadow who followed us everywhere, just dedicated, always there to be part of what was happening.

Erhard, Nora, Karl, Rudi, Sadi, Dixie and Vuvu.
